"No one understands you when you’re sixteen with a pink trihawk." - damn straight. I dyed my hair white-blond, spiked, over Summer break and returned to school quoting Philip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison...everyone was like, "WTF happened to You??", Lol
I love this! ‘Everybody I knew grew into it. But you never really grow out of it.’ Yes. ‘…and I don’t remember how it started, and I don’t know how it will end.’ Yes! Exactly. And that last line is a killer perfect end.
My first car was an old silver Buick Skylark, with red velour interior, and ceiling fabric that sagged almost to the seats.
I love how this poem reminded you of your Buick . That is such an iconic car. Thanks for sharing your thoughts . ;)glad you enjoyed this piece , wrote it a long time ago and showed up in an old box I was digging through.
Weirdly my first car was a beat up Buick Skylark. Glittery blue.
My first loves was a 77 so big we could sleep in the back and it was a cream colored . What year was yours?
A ‘67 convertible. Barely ran, cost $900, but I loved it. All muscle.
Sweet love that. 67’ was a great year for cars.
I can feel the Elmer's glue melting with the sweat from the pit. You were one of the punks I admired and feared. I was, like, a lipstick punk.
I was a barking dog. I didn't bite. :) Thanks for sharing.
Such a good poet. So proud of you.
